Biography

Dr. Allan Jeong is an Associate Professor of Instructional Systems at Florida State University. He joined the FSU faculty after working nine years as an instructional technology consultant for the Department of Learning Technology and Distance Education at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Dr. Jeong’s research is in the field of computer-mediated communication and computer-supported collaborative work and collaborative learning. Specifically, his interests lie in developing methods and software tools (DAT) to measure, sequentially analyze, and visually map group processes in computer-supported environments in order to examine how technology and design affect changes in group processes and how resulting changes in processes lead to changes in group performance. In addition, he is also developing similar tools and techniques (jMap) to sequentially and visually analyze how individual vs. group mental models change over time towards target/expert models, how and what discourse processes affect changes in mental models, and how group discourse and mental models together affect decision making. He typically teaches courses such as Introduction to Distance Learning, Designing Collaborative Learning Online, Theories of Learning and Cognition, and Development of Computer Courseware. He was honored with The Journal of Distance Education Editors’ Award for excellence in research in distance education in 2007.
