John Voekel

Biography

John is a principal and founder of Framework Engineering with years of experience working in Engineering, Architecture, and Construction.   His professional work as an Engineer includes carefully detailed wood-frame construction, sustainable straw-bale and concrete buildings, and special steel frames for high-seismic areas. John recently won a design competition for a shade structure to be built at the San Ysidro pedestrian border crossing -- as much an Architectural design as a feat of Engineering.   Having a design background allows for a more collaborative relationship with both Architects and Contractors, an openness to taking on challenging proposals, and better final projects. In 2015, John won an award from the Berkeley Architectural Heritage Association (BAHA) for the design and engineering of a respectful addition to an existing Berkeley bungalow, the Richard D. Felt House.
