William P. Johnston

Biography

 Mr. William P. Johnston, also known as Will, J.D., has been an Operating Executive at The Carlyle Group, LP since June 2006 and serves as its Senior Advisor. Mr. Johnston focuses on buyout opportunities in the healthcare sector in United States. He serves as an Operating Executive of Carlyle Partners VI, L.P. He is a part of Corporate Private Equity business segment. He helps identify investments in the healthcare sector and provide strategic and management guidance to healthcare portfolio companies. From September 1987 to December 2002, Mr. Johnston was with Equitable Securities Corporation (and its successors, SunTrust Equitable Securities and SunTrust Robinson Humphrey) serving in various investment banking and managerial positions, including Head of Investment Banking. From August 2001 to December 2002, he served as the Managing Director at SunTrust Robinson Humphrey, Inc. From 1994 to 1998, Mr. Johnston served as the Chief Executive Officer, Managing Director and Member of the Board of Directors at Equitable Securities Corporation. He also served as the Chief Executive Officer at SunTrust Equitable Securities Corporation from 1998 to April 2000 and served as the Vice Chairman from 1998 to 2001. He began his professional career practicing law at the Waller Lansden Dortch & Davis. Mr. Johnston has more than forty years of experience in senior leadership positions in the health care, investment banking and legal professions. He previously served as Managing Director and Head of Investment Banking, Chief Executive Officer and Vice Chairman for an Investment Bank. Mr. Johnston serves as Independent Chairman of the Board of Hartford Series Fund, Inc., Hartford HLS Series Fund II, Inc., The Hartford Mutual Funds, Inc. and The Hartford Mutual Funds II, Inc. He served as the Chairman of Renal Care Group, Inc. from March 2003 to March 2006. He serves as an Independent Director of HL Investment Advisors, LLC. He serves as a Trustee of Hartford Funds Master Fund and Hartford Funds NextShares Trust. He serves as a Director of various funds in Hartford Mutual Fund complex. He has been a Director of HCR ManorCare, Inc. since February 2008. He has been a Director of Holdings CL, Inc., since August 22, 2007. He has been a Member of Supervisory Board at Fresenius Medical Care AG & Co. KGAA since May 2006 and Fresenius Medical Care Management AG since August 30, 2006. He serves as a Member of Supervisory Board at Fresenius Medical Care Holdings Inc. He served as a Director of LifeCare Holdings, Inc. from August 2007 to June 2013. From 2002 to 2013, Mr. Johnston served as a Board member of the Georgia O'Keefe Museum. He served as a Director of MultiPlan, Inc. July 2006 to August 2010. He served as a Director of Renal Care Group, Inc. since November 2002. Mr. Johnston holds a J.D. degree from Vanderbilt Law School and his B.A. degree from Vanderbilt University.
