Biography
Mike serves as the firm’s Director of Active Transportation, as well as the Louisville Office Transportation Leader within GS&P’s Transportation market. He has helped establish Gresham, Smith and Partners as a leader in multi-modal design, complete streets and network planning. Under Mike’s leadership, the Louisville office became a gold-level bike-friendly business as ranked by the League of American Bicyclists. Mike has more than 20 years of experience in the planning, design and implementation of transportation projects ranging from rural roadways to major multimodal planning initiatives. He also excels in leading public involvement campaigns, effectively communicating engineering concepts to the general public and gaining support for meaningful infrastructure projects from stakeholders and community residents. As a daily bike commuter, Mike’s understands the issues and opportunities associated with the integration of pedestrians and people on bikes into policies, plans and projects. The University of Louisville J.B. Speed School of Engineering named him as Outstanding Young Engineer in 2008, and he earned the prestigious D.V. Terrell Award from the Kentucky Society of Professional Engineers in 2012 for his work in engineering outreach. Mike was also honored on the Louisville Business First “Forty Under 40” list in 2013. He is a member of the Kentucky Society of Professional Engineers (KSPE), Louisville and Lexington Chambers of Commerce, American Planning Association (APA), American Society of Highway Engineers (ASHE) and the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC). Mike earned a Bachelor of Civil Engineering and a Master of Engineering in Civil Engineering, both from the University of Louisville.
