Biography
Meet Mike Sewell, our latest Faces of GS&P feature. When he’s not biking around Louisville, spending time with his two young sons, or owning the karaoke stage, he’s improving connectivity in communities through active transportation initiatives. Keep reading to learn about his journey at GS&P. My first job was hand drafting for custom farm machinery. I had taken some hand drafting in high school and when I learned that a local farmer had designed a neat piece of machinery that he was planning to start mass producing, I approached him. His team wanted a set of plans that he could hand off to several teams of producers. My job was to measure each piece of this final assembled tractor monstrosity and then draft it. Seven; my titles have included engineer in training, project engineer, project manager, office manager, department manager, principal and now director of active transportation. Louisville’s Urban Bike Network has been the most meaningful to me. Taking an entire network and carving out capacity to allow multi-modal connections to about anywhere you want to go, it feels good. I’m extremely proud of our Louisville office for becoming a Gold Level bike friendly business as ranked by the League of American Bicyclists. We have a lot of people commuting to work by bike and you can tell a huge difference with the staff because of it. People are arriving to work more refreshed and I think are able to produce better designs as a result. GS&P is a hub of creativity. I’ve been fortunate to be surrounded by talented and passionate designers and engineers, which made me realize the power of collaboration. I’ve been able to feed off of other GS&P staff, regardless of their market, to help the Transportation market thrive.
