James G. Carlson

Biography

Mr. James G. Carlson, also known as Jim, is the Founder, Managing Director, Co-Chief Executive Officer, Partner and Director of Guidon Partners GP, LLC. Mr. Carlson was a Senior Advisor of Stone Point Capital LLC since March 2013. He served as the Chief Executive Officer of AMERIGROUP Corporation from September 1, 2007 to 2012 and also served as its President from April 28, 2003 to 2007. Mr. Carlson served as the Head of Medicaid Business at Anthem, Inc. since October 2012. He served as the Chief Operating Officer of AMERIGROUP Corporation from February 28, 2006 to September 1, 2007 and also from April 28, 2003 to October 28, 2005. He served as an Executive Vice President of UnitedHealth Group Incorporated. Mr. Carlson served as President of United HealthCare, a division of United HealthGroup. He served as an Executive Vice President of MetraHealth from March 1995 to September 1995. He was a Founder and Chief Executive Officer of HealthSpring. Mr. Carlson began his career at The Prudential Insurance Company of America as its President of Western Group Operations and was responsible for their launch of managed care in that region via formation of health plans throughout California. He was a Co-founder of Workscape, Inc. and served as its Chief Executive Officer since February 1999 and served as its Chairman from February 1999 to June 2005. Mr. Carlson served as the Chairman of AMERIGROUP Corporation since May 8, 2008. He has been a Director of Acelity L.P. Inc. since June 1, 2013. He has been a Director of Acelity Holdings, Inc. since August 2015. He serves as a Director of America's Health Insurance Plans. He served as a Director of Omnicare Inc. from July 1, 2013 to August 18, 2015. Mr. Carlson serves on the Boards of the National Capital Region of the National Kidney Foundation, the Virginia Aquarium & Marine Science Center and the Virginia Beach Neptune Festival, as well as the Health Sector Advisory Council for the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University. Mr. Carlson served as a Director of AMERIGROUP Corporation since August 31, 2007. He served as a Director of Workscape Inc. He has more than 35 years of experience in health insurance industry. He also has investor relations, corporate governance, corporate communications and general public company leadership and management expertise, having spent more than 10 years in leadership roles with public companies. Mr. Carlson holds Bachelor of Science in Commerce Degree from the Rider University and attended Morningside College.
