Biography
Dr. Tachi Yamada is gastroenterologist with a strong background in research and development. Most recently, he served is the former Chief Medical and Scientific Officer for Takeda Pharmaceuticals, and also served as a member of the company’s board of directors. Early in his career, Dr. Yamada spent 13 years at the University of Michigan Medical School as head of gastroenterology, and later as chair of the department of internal medicine. For his efforts, he was recognized with membership to the Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Science. He also served as president of the Association of American Physicians and the American Gastroenterology Association. After leaving the university, Dr. Yamada spent a decade at GlaxoSmithKline where he served as Head of R&D and as a member of the company’s Board of Directors. He was later president of Worldwide Healthcare for the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. He also sits on several boards in the U.S. and abroad, including the Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI) Foundation.
