Hood Foundation Child Health Research Award Dr. Navarro is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and Brigham and Women’s Hospital. He received his PhD from the University of Córdoba, Spain, in 2006 under the mentorship of Dr. Manuel Tena-Sempere. His dissertation work focused on the characterization of the neuroendocrine mechanisms that control reproductive function, with special emphasis on the role of kisspeptins in the attainment and maintenance of fertility. In 2007, Dr. Navarro joined the group of Dr. Robert A. Steiner at the University of Washington, Seattle. During this period (2007-2011), he studied the neuronal mechanisms that control kisspeptin release and proposed a model of interaction between neurokinin B, dynorphin and kisspeptin that has become accepted by his peers as the likely GnRH pulse generator. In 2012, Dr. Navarro was recruited to join the faculty of the Division of Endocrinology at Harvard Medical School and Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Boston, where he continues his research on the characterization of the central circuits governing reproductive function and metabolism.
