Biography
I am a computational biologist, specializing in epigenomics and cancer genomics, particularly the computational and statistical analysis of genomic data. We analyze epigenome and whole-genome sequencing datasets from cancer and other diseases, using high-throughput sequencing technology. My lab has participated in a number of important genomics initiatives, including the ENCODE project to profile histone modifications and chromatin-associated proteins, for which we led the cross-species (human-fly-worm) chromatin analysis for the consortium. We have also been involved in The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) project, which has performed comprehensive genomic characterization of nearly 10,000 cancer samples. I originally trained in applied mathematics at Harvard and Caltech, and became interested in molecular biology and genomics during a postdoctoral fellowship at the Harvard School of Public Health. Today, I am an Associate Professor at Harvard Medical School, where I co-direct the doctoral program in Bioinformatics and Integrative Genomics. I live in Cambridge, Massachusetts, with my wife, who is on the piano faculty at the New England Conservatory Preparatory School, and spend most of my free time with my two beautiful children.
