Joseph L. Herring

Biography

    Mr. Joseph L. Herring, also known as Joe, served as the Chief Executive Officer of Covance Drug Development at Laboratory Corp. of America Holdings from February 2, 2015 to July 31, 2015. Mr. Herring has more than 35 years of experience in the healthcare industry. Mr. Herring served as the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Covance Inc. since January 1, 2005. He served as the President and Chief Operating Officer of Covance Inc., from November 2001 to December 31, 2004. He served as Corporate Senior Vice President and President-Early Development Services of Covance Inc. from September 1999 to November 2001. Mr. Herring served as Vice President at Covance Laboratories, Inc. Mr. Herring served as Corporate Senior Vice President and President, Early Development Services, responsible for Covance's worldwide Preclinical testing and Phase I services. He joined Covance in September 1996. Mr. Herring worked in the American Hospital Supply/Baxter/Caremark organization for 19 years. He served a number of executive positions, including Vice President/General Manager of the Oncology Services Division, Area Vice President and Vice President of Marketing. He served as Chairman of University Medical Center of Princeton and the Association of Clinical Research Organizations. He has been Independent Director of Henry Schein, Inc. since May 31, 2016. He also serves on the Board of Directors of First Circle Medical (Minneapolis, MN). He served as a Director of Team Health Holdings, Inc. since November 2013 until May 25, 2016. He serves on the nonprofit boards for University Medical Center of Princeton and the Association of Clinical Research Organizations. Mr. Herring served as a Director of Covance Inc. since June 25, 2004. He previously served on the board of First Circle Medical, Inc. Mr. Herring received his B.S. degree in Business Administration and marketing from Louisiana State University in 1978.
