Nina Mahjoub

Biography

Nina leads the Los Angeles team and is building up the group to become Holmes’ thriving Southern California office. After practicing as a structural engineer in Manhattan and then on the new Bay Bridge between San Francisco and Oakland, Nina took a break to go build mud-hut libraries in Thailand, and to reflect on why engineering had excited her in the first place. She returned to the U.S. focused on sustainable design, in particular the retrofit of existing structures. It’s our duty, she says, to give buildings a chance to live on in history. She takes the impact that the building community has on public safety seriously while conserving a city’s heritage, remembering the past while paving possibilities for the future . Born and raised in France by Iranian parents, Nina earned her engineering degrees at UCLA followed by MIT with an emphasis in high performance structures. She took a sabbatical to pursue a Master’s in World Heritage & Cultural Projects for Development through UNESCO. She treasures the international vibe at Holmes Structures.
