Biography

Autobiography : When people ask me why I decided to become a gastroenterologist, I ultimately talk about food. I was raised in Louisiana, and I know we have the best food in the world. Now if you eat the way we do, digestive problems can occur. However, such problems often arise from factors outside of our diet, and the researcher in me is obsessed with finding out what causes our digestive issues. With so much junk science and so many myths floating around out there, I want to make sure you’re getting the best treatment possible because no one should have to pass up on a good bowl of gumbo. My father and sister are both psychiatrists, and my grandfather owned a pharmacy. It was there that I became fascinated with medical research, which eventually brought me to Tulane for both undergrad and medical school. Upon graduation, I became the Chief Resident and Clinical Instructor of Medicine at the Tulane University Health Sciences Center. I then completed my fellowship at University of Alabama-Birmingham. At that point, my wife and I decided it was time to raise a family, so we moved back home to Louisiana. I was soon hired as the Director of Gastroenterology Research and Medical Director of the Inflammatory Bowel Disease Center for the Ochsner Health System. For five years, I worked in this nationally ranked, top-ten gastroenterology program before deciding that I could better serve our people by opening my own practice beyond the borders of Orleans Parish. Now I could not be more excited about improving the health of the residents of Houma. Many patients struggle to clearly communicate the symptoms of their digestive illness, but I’m here to make this easy for you. I spend all day talking about uncomfortable things, so there’s very little you can say that will shock me. I’ve always had a great relationship with my patients, and I’ll do everything I can to make you comfortable enough to be frank and honest about your condition. When you are forthcoming about your symptoms, you allow me to provide the treatment you need. It’s an honor to be part of your community. If I don’t see you in my office soon, I hope I’ll run into you while I’m out fishing, jogging, or golfing, enjoying one of the many unique features our state has to offer.
