Darian Unger

Biography

Dr. Darian Unger received his M.S and Ph.D. from MIT. Before joining the Howard University School of Business, he was an engineering program manager at Westinghouse Power Generation, consulted in the electric power industry, and taught at the Asian Institute of Technology. Dr. Unger's areas of expertise include innovation strategy, technology management, operations management, and new product development. He is especially interested in the development of new environmental and energy technologies. Professor Unger has published in the Journal of Engineering Design and the International Journal of Product Development, among others, and is a reviewer for several technology management journals and business textbooks. His other areas of interest include the role of government policies in spurring the development of green energy technologies, the role of information flows in new product development, and how the patent process influences both large corporations and individual entrepreneurs. Dr. Unger is the recipient of several teaching awards, including the Howard University Exemplary Teaching Award and the Information Systems Award for Outstanding Teaching. He lives with his wife and children in Silver Spring MD, where he was elected chairman of the Silver Spring Advisory Board. He is an active firefighter/EMT, with over a decade of service in the Silver Spring Volunteer Fire Department.
