Biography
Dr. Lopez is Director, Cancer Health Equity at the Huntsman Cancer Institute (HCI) and Professor in the Department of Medicine at the University of Utah School of Medicine. Dr. Lopez is a member of the Cancer Control and Population Sciences Program. Dr. Lopez has cared for patients with all types of cancer since 1996 and specializes in women’s cancers and integrative oncology. Dr. Lopez has more than 70 peer-reviewed original articles in her area of investigation. With her focus on women’s cancer, integrative oncology, cancer prevention, and innovations in Dr. Lopez has been the Principal Investigator of Investigator Initiated and national clinical trials. Dr. Lopez is an expert in innovations in health care delivery with a focus on the use of telecommunications technology to increase access to care. Dr. Lopez is Director, Community Outreach and Engagement, Utah Center for Clinical and Translational Sciences, University of Utah Health Sciences. At HCI, Dr. Lopez is developing approaches to enhance access to culturally and linguistically competent cancer care and cancer clinical trials across the entire spectrum of care. Dr. Lopez is funded to study approaches to improve access to cancer patient education across Utah and to develop researchers in cancer health equity in the Intermountain West. Dr. Lopez earned her M.D. from the Sydney Kimmel College of Medicine of Thomas Jefferson University. She completed a residency and chief resident year, fellowship in General Medicine, clinical fellowship in hematology and oncology, research fellowship in Cancer Etiology and Prevention (National Cancer Institute), and in integrative medicine at the University of Arizona College of Medicine. Prior to joining the faculty at the University of Utah School of Medicine, Dr. Lopez was Medical Director of the Arizona Telemedicine Program and tenured Professor of Medicine at the University of Arizona College of Medicine.
