Biography

Chris Ireland, PhD, is a professor and the dean of the College of Pharmacy at the University of Utah and a member of the Experimental Therapeutics Program at Huntsman Cancer Institute.Ireland's research focuses on the discovery and development of new anticancer therapies from environmental niches in nature. He also screens natural products for their ability to target cancer cells, in the hopes of discovering new agents with potential for the treatment of human cancers. In the last two decades, this program has been successful in the discovery and characterization of more than 100 unique marine natural products with anticancer properties.Ireland received a bachelor's degree from the University of California, San Diego, and a PhD from Scripps Institution of Oceanography, San Diego.
