Biography

Dr. Grossmann received his medical and doctorate degrees from the Oregon Health Sciences University (OHSU) in Portland Oregon. He completed his residency training in internal medicine at OHSU. As a resident, Dr. Grossmann was awarded the John S. Miller Teaching Award by the graduating medical students in 2005– an award given to the most gifted educator among all interns. During his subspecialty training in medical oncology, Dr. Grossmann completed clinical and research work at OHSU, the University of Utah, and the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston Texas where he focused his training on the clinical care of Stage III and IV melanoma patients. In 2009 Dr. Grossmann joined the University of Utah faculty in the Department of Medical Oncology, and advanced to the rank of Assistant Professor in 2011. He is an investigator in the Huntsman Cancer Institute and a member of the Experimental Therapeutics program. Dr. Grossmann is a physician-scientist whose research focus is on understanding the mechanisms of drug resistance, and radiation resistance of melanoma and other cancers. He has published in peer reviewed journals such as Cell, Mutation Research, Diagnostic Cytopathology, and Journal of Translational Medicine. Dr. Grossmann is recognized regionally, nationally, and internationally as a melanoma expert, and as such has been an invited speaker at the Society of Utah Medical Oncology, and at the Future Perspectives in Melanoma Research Meeting in Naples Italy in 2011. He is an active member of the Southwest Oncology Group where he focuses on the design and execution of clinical trials to define the standard of care in melanoma medical oncology. In addition to his work on melanoma, Dr. Grossmann also sees patients with non-melanomatous tumors such as basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma of the skin, and cancers of the head and neck. He serves on the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) panel for non-melanomatous skin tumors which defines national standards for the oncologic care of these tumor types.
