Liu, Jia

Biography

Dr. Liu has a B.A. in Financial Management from the Beijing Jiaotong University, and an M.S. in Management Science and Engineering from the Chinese Academy of Sciences. She also holds an M.S. in Finance and an M.S. in Economics from the University of Kansas, and finally a Ph.D. in Economics with specialization in International Finance from the University of Kansas. Dr. Liu has extensive work experience in consulting, teaching, and research. Her work has been published in academic journals as well as non-academic publications. She has often been quoted in the national media, such as The Wall Street Journal, the Los Angeles Times, U.S. News & World Report, etc. Before she joined Husson in 2016, she worked as a research fellow at the American Institute for Economic Research for four years.

Research Interest

Finance and Economics apply mathematical techniques to the solution of real world problems. These disciplines are not only sciences, but are also tied to real world practice. As a professor, I believe experiential teaching/learning is the key to our students. I therefore conduct my teaching to bring my work experience in industry to the classroom, and assign students case studies, require them to solve real problems, engage in discussions of current debates in business, etc. As a researcher, I concentrate on empirical studies, applying real financial and economic data to address practical issues. My teaching interests are International Finance, Financial Management, Risk Management, Personal Finance, etc. My current research interests are International Finance, Financial Cycles, Business Cycles, and Monetary Policy.
