Biography
Dr. Callen grew up in the Greater Yellowstone Area and feels fortunate to have been able to return to the region after his graduate studies at Arizona State. Dr. Callen began teaching at Idaho State in 2012. His research and teaching is takes the approach that working with communities, history and traditions, and relationships to the land and each other we can build knowledge beneficial for economic and social progress. His scholarship includes considerations of technology and governance and also ethics. Dr. Callen’s service work often includes working with local organizations such as Pocatello NeighborWorks, the City of Pocatello Planning, Old Town, Inc., and others in regards to social and economic community development. In his teaching, he leverages his service and research to incorporate community-centric projects around real problems that face Southeast Idaho.
