Biography
Dr. Triantafyllos Tafas, also known as Fyllis, PhD founded Ikonisys, Inc. in 1999 and serves as its President. Dr. Tafas served as the Chief Technology Officer at Ikonisys, Inc. Dr. Tafas is responsible for setting the technology architecture and product strategies for Ikonisys' digital microscopy business. Dr. Tafas plays a primary role in ensuring that the product development, integration, and process organizations align technology capabilities with product direction. He served as Chief Scientific Officer of Ikonisys. Dr. Tafas has 30 years of advanced biological, microbiological and genetic experience. In 1987, he developed the first clinicaL microbiology management system for Greek hospitals, he developed the first Down Syndrome Screening Program for Greece in 1989 followed by a long effort to develop new markers for prenatal Down Syndrome screening. He serves as Director of He serves as a Director at Ikonisys, Inc. Dr. Tafas has developed various clinical and environmental biology software applications for both the public and private sector and he holds grants and awards in the field of population biology and the use of computer imaging in biology. He has co-authored six patents in the field of cell based diagnostics and is the contributor of more than 20 additional pending patents. He has also co-authored several scientific publications. He also holds a visiting faculty appointment with the University of Connecticut. He classically trained in biology in the early 1980's. Dr. Tafas received his PhD in population dynamics and taxonomy from the University of Athens, Greece, where he held an academic appointment in the Faculty of Biology until 2002.
