Biography
Dr. Richard L. Synder, also known as Rich, MD, has been the Chief Medical Officer of Independence Blue Cross, Inc. since January 1 2010 and serves as its Senior Vice President. Mr. Synder served as Senior Vice President, Health Services of Independence Blue Cross, Inc. from February 21, 2007 to January 1, 2010. Dr. Snyder assumed overall accountability for care management and coordination activities while continuing to have responsibility for Healthy Lifestyles prevention programs, the Connections suite of disease management programs, credentialing and appeals activity. As Vice President, Quality Management since 1999, Dr. Snyder led a number of key initiatives including the implementation of Independence Blue Cross's new award-winning Connections (SM) disease management programs and achievement of NCQA accreditation at the highest level possible for its health plans. Active in his professional field at a national level, Dr. Snyder chairs the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA)'s Review Oversight Committee and the America's Health Insurance Plan (AHIP)''s Quality and Industry Standards Workgroup. He also serves as an NCQA Accreditation Surveyor. In addition, he is a member of several professional associations, including the American Medical Association, the Pennsylvania Medical Society, the American Academy of Family Physicians, the Pennsylvania Academy of Family Physicians, and the Chester County Medical Society. Dr. Snyder earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Franklin & Marshall College and Medical Degree from the Medical College of Pennsylvania. Dr. Snyder resides with his wife and their children in Berwyn, PA.
