Biography
Ana Gutiérrez Gossweiler, Odont., DDS, MSD, holds the position of Research Associate of the Department of Cariology, Operative Dentistry and Dental Public Health, Oral Health Research Institute (OHRI) at Indiana University School of Dentistry (IUSD). She is also the Medical/Clinical Director of the OHRI Clinic. She received her Odontologist degree in the Universidad Central de Venezuela, Caracas, Venezuela in 1989. Shortly thereafter, Dr. Gossweiler worked in private practice and at the Social Security Clinic in Barquisimeto, Venezuela. She received her MSD degree in Periodontics in 1998, and her DDS degree in 2002 both from IUSD. From 1998 to 2008, Dr Gossweiler was a part-time and later a full time faculty in the Department of Periodontics and Allied Dental Sciences at IUSD instructing in both pre-doctoral and post-doctoral programs. During this time and subsequently, she has developed language and cultural training programs for both students and private practitioners who wish to serve the Hispanic community in Indiana. She was a two term president of the Indiana Chapter of the Hispanic Dental Association. She joined the faculty of OHRI in 2009 and assumed the responsibilities of Medical/Clinical Director in 2011. Dr. Gossweiler became a Diplomate of the Amercian Academy of Periodontology in 2011.
Research Interest
In her current position, she directs the clinical development of a wide variety of research projects that are carried out at OHRI. Amongst these are currently various in-situ caries models and stomatitis studies. Dr. Gossweiler is calibrated in different diagnostic clinical recording systems including ICDAS, Newton Classification and others.
