Biography
Ms. Capps is currently the Director of Distance Learning at the Indiana University School of Dentistry’s (IUSD) dental assisting program. She earned her bachelor’s degree in dental hygiene from the University of Missouri in Kansas City in 1979 and her master’s in health science from Ball State University in 1997. She has been a DANB Certified Dental Assistant since 2002. Ms. Capps has been a member of the American Dental Assistants Association for more than 10 years. She has held numerous positions at national, state and local levels, including serving as 2009-2010 President of the Indiana Dental Assistants Association. She is also the current Councilor of the American Dental Educators Association (ADEA) Section on Dental Assisting Education. Ms. Capps was elected to Dental Assisting National Board's (DANB) Board of Directors in August 2011 and is serving the first of a possible two three-year terms. She has received numerous industry accolades, including IUSD’s 2011 Distinguished Teacher Award, which is given annually to a single faculty member within the school. Ms. Capps is the first dental assisting educator at Indiana University to receive the award. She also received IUSD’s Trustees Teaching Award in 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2009.
