Biography

Armando E Soto-Rojas DDS, MPH is an Associate Professor of the Department of Cariology, Operative Dentistry and Dental Public Health, Indiana University School of Dentistry. He is currently working in the Fluoride Pharmacology Research Program. Dr. Soto-Rojas is program associate the director for of the SEAL INDIANA, IUSD's Statewide Mobile Dental Sealant Program. He is involved and participates actively in the Binational/Cross-Cultural Health Enhancement Center . Dr. Soto-Rojas previously held the positions of Preventive Dentistry Department Chair and Research Assistant at the Universidad Intercontinental in Mexico City. He also held a position as Assistant Researcher at The Instituto Nacional de Ciencias Médicas y Nutrición Salvador Zubirán, conducting research on autoimmune diseases, particularly on Sjögren’s syndrome. After receiving his degree from the Universidad Intercontinental in Mexico City in 1981, he received an MPH at King's College School of Medicine and Dentistry, University of London, London England in 1990. He has published articles in the fluoride and dry mouth area. Dr. Soto Rojas' research projects have received National and International awards.

Research Interest

Educational part of the Seal Indiana program, effectiveness of the use of sealants to prevent and stop progression of dental caries • Fluoride analysis leading to the development of gold standards methods of a wide variety of samples • Development of quantitative and qualitative methods for the assessment of dental fluorosis • Effects of the presence of dental fluorosis on patient's self perception and quality of life • Development of strategies to deliver preventive measures for dry mouth patients • Prevention strategies for the medically, physical or mentally handicapped patient • International service-learning programs • Community-based research in the area of migrant/binational health
