Biography

  Marcia J. Avedon is senior vice president of human resources, communications and corporate affairs at Ingersoll Rand and a member of the company’s enterprise leadership team. Since 2007, she has led human resources, building the leadership effectiveness, engagement, talent and capabilities necessary to achieve Ingersoll Rand’s business objectives and deliver premier performance. She also oversees the company’s corporate communications, branding, government affairs and community relations practices, engaging with stakeholders around the world to enhance the company’s brand and reputation with employees, customers and investors. Prior to joining Ingersoll Rand, Avedon was chief human resources officer at Merck & Co., with global responsibility for human resource strategies, programs and policies. Prior to Merck, Avedon spent several years with Honeywell in a variety of leadership roles spanning human resources and communications. She also worked in human resources for Anheuser-Busch Companies, and spent her early career as a management consultant with Booz Allen Hamilton. Avedon serves on the Boards of Directors for GCP Applied Technologies, the Center for Creative Leadership, the HR Policy Association and the Cornell University Center for Advanced Human Resources Studies. She is the inaugural chair of the University of South Carolina’s Center for Executive Succession. Avedon is a Fellow of the National Academy of Human Resources. Avedon holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from University of North Carolina at Wilmington, and a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in industrial and organizational psychology from George Washington University.
