Biography

Doreena Lesanics, PhD is the Chief Psychologist and Unit Chief of both the Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) and the Intensive Psychiatric Rehabilitation Treatment Program (IPRT) at Interfaith Medical Center. She completed her undergraduate degree in Art History at Loyola University of Chicago. She earned a Master’s degree in Liberal Studies at New York University, completed post baccalaureate psychology course work at Hunter College and earned a Master’s Degree and a PhD in Clinical Psychology at St. John’s University. She completed her APA approved predoctoral internship at Carolina’s Medical Center in Charlotte, NC and her post-doctoral year was spent at Harlem Hospital Center in Adult Outpatient Psychiatry Department. She remained at Harlem Hospital for eleven years and while there spearheaded the development of the Young Adult Program and the Psychology Externship program. Throughout her years at Harlem Hospital she participated in the training of psychiatry residents and fellows and psychology externs specifically with direct supervision and teaching courses of CBT, CBT and play therapy and DBT. She has been involved with various research projects at Memorial Sloan Kettering, Bellevue Hospital Center and NYU School of Medicine. For the past five years, Dr. Lesanics has served as a per diem psychologist at NYU School of Medicine. In this role she conducts structured clinical interviews with veterans of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan for the Cohen Veterans Center study of PTSD and traumatic brain injuries.
