Massimo Maresca

Biography

Massimo Maresca, a professor at the University of Genoa's School of Engineering, leads the Scientific Office of the Italian Consulate in San Francisco. He received a Laurea degree in electrical engineering in 1980 and a research doctorate in computer engineering in 1985, both from the University of Genoa, Italy. From 1985 to 1987, he was a postdoctoral fellow at the IBM T. J. Watson Research Center in Yorktown Heights, New York, and has also held visiting scholar positions at the University of Washington and ICSI. He was an assistant professor and then an associate professor at the University of Genoa from 1991 to 1994 and a professor at the University of Padua from 1995 to 2012. At the University of Padua, he served as the director of the Graduate School in Computer Engineering for several years. In 2013, he moved back to the University of Genoa as a professor and the director of the Research Center on Computer Platform Engineering, jointly established with the University of Padua. He has published around a hundred papers in scientific conferences and journals, served for two terms on the editorial board of the Proceedings of the IEEE, and was the principal investigator for many research projects funded by private companies, the Italian Government, and the European Commission. He supervises a project at ICSI on service composition in distributed application design and execution, which was established by a visiting agreement between ICSI and the University of Genoa.

Research Interest

His research activity has evolved from massively parallel computers to distributed systems and currently focuses on distributed computer platforms and service computing.
