Biography
Dr. James J. Conklin, M.D., M.S., serves as Vice President of Research at Janssen Biotech, Inc. He served as the Senior Vice President of Medical and Scientific Affairs of Beacon Bioscience, Inc. Dr. Conklin served as General Manager of SciSoft Division and Senior Vice President at Phoenix International Life Sciences, Inc. He serves as an Advisor at Convergent Venture Partners, L.P. and Convergent Ventures. He serves as a Senior Business and Research Executive in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries. Dr. Conklin served as Chief Executive Officer of Integraware, Inc. He served as Chief Executive Officer of Bio-Imaging Technologies, Inc., which he founded in 1990. He served as Vice President of Research/Product Development at Cytogen, Inc. He held numerous senior executive positions in life science technology companies including Chief Executive Officer of EDC and LIMS software companies and Chief Business Officer of a genomics company. Early in his career, Dr. Conklin flew Phantom fighter aircraft in the US Air Force. He also directed Armed Forces Radiobiology Research Institute, in Bethesda, Maryland. He served as a Member of an Advisory team to the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, and the Department of Defense representative to the radiation science panel of the White House Office of the President Science and Technology. He is a Professor of Radiology at several medical schools, published over 100 scientific papers and edited four books. One of the textbooks, Imaging Techniques in Biology and Medicine published by Academic Press in 1987 provided the technical foundation for Bio-Imaging Technologies, Inc. He has authored over 150 scientific publications. He is a serial entrepreneur and pioneered commercial imaging core laboratories. He is a board-certified Physician in Internal and Nuclear Medicine. Dr. Conklin is a Johns Hopkins trained Research Physician with undergraduate and graduate training in Electrical/Computer Engineering and a Master's degree in Management.
