Biography

Dr. Bernard A. Cohen is a professor of dermatology and pediatrics at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He serves as program director of the Johns Hopkins eMedical Dermatology Review. He received his medical degree from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in 1977, completed his pediatric residency at the Johns Hopkins Children’s Center in 1980, served as chief resident in pediatrics at the Sinai Hospital of Baltimore in 1981, completed his residency in dermatology at Johns Hopkins in 1984, and served as chief resident in dermatology during his last year of training. He was subsequently recruited to Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh where he served as director of pediatric dermatology until 1991 when he returned to Johns Hopkins. Dr. Cohen was boarded in pediatrics in 1981, dermatology in 1984 and pediatric dermatology in 2004. He is a fellow in the American Academy of Pediatrics and American Academy of Dermatology, and a member of the Society for Pediatric Dermatology, where he served as president in 2002. Dr. Cohen is the author or coauthor of numerous articles published in peer-reviewed journals such as the Lancet, Archives of Dermatology, and the New England Journal of Medicine, among others. He has a special interest in infantile hemangiomas, vascular malformations, infections and infestations, other birthmarks, cutaneous laser surgery, medical education and imaging in dermatology.
