Biography

Dr. Margaret Smith Chisolm is Associate Professor, Vice Chair for Education, and the Associate Director of the Paul McHugh Program for Human Flourishing, all within the department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, Johns Hopkins Medicine. Board-certified in general psychiatry and addiction medicine, she has over two decades of clinical experience working with substance-using reproductive-age women in both general and specialized psychiatric outpatient and inpatient settings and has served as PI or co-investigator on several NIDA-funded research projects. In addition, Dr. Chisolm is the Associate Director of the Paul McHugh Program for Human Flourishing. She has published over 70 scientific, clinical, and medical education articles and book chapters on substance use in pregnancy and other psychiatric disorders, as well as the use of social media in medicine and humanistic practice. She is also an author of a psychiatric textbook. Dr. Chisolm is a member of the Miller-Coulson Academy of Clinical Excellence, has been twice recognized as an Arnold P. Gold Foundation Humanism Scholar, and is the recipient of the 2014 Johns Hopkins University Alumni Association Excellence in Teaching Award.
