Biography

 Michael Bartschat serves as chief procurement officer (CPO) and vice president of the Johnson Controls Operating System. As CPO, Bartschat leads an integrated global procurement function that leverages scale and optimizes the cost and value of purchased materials, products and services. As vice president of the Johnson Controls Operating System, Bartschat leads the majority of the functions in the JCOS, including engineering, procurement, manufacturing, supply chain, and environment, health & safety. He also has overall responsibility for the continuous improvement and real estate functions. In addition, Bartschat is the integration leader for the merger between Johnson Controls and Tyco. In this role, he is responsible for realizing growth opportunities and delivering the value inherent in the combination of the two companies.  Bartschat joined Johnson Controls in 2004. Prior to being named CPO, he served as group vice president and general manager of product group metals and mechanisms in the company’s Automotive Seating business. Before that, Bartschat led the global product group trim and fabrics, driving the expansion of this automotive business into Asia. Earlier in his career, Bartschat held roles in operations and plant management, marketing, strategic planning and engineering. He also holds a U.S. patent in robotics. In the community, Bartschat serves on the board of trustees of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and has led fundraising efforts for Children’s Hospital of Michigan. Bartschat holds an MBA from Harvard Business School, a master’s degree in mechanical engineering from MIT and a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Carnegie-Mellon University.
