Biography
BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH: Dr. Stone received a bachelor’s degree in Physical Therapy from the University of Maryland Baltimore, her master’s in Public Administration from the University of Baltimore, and a doctoral degree in Organizational Leadership from the University of Maryland Eastern Shore. She currently holds an adjunct faculty position at the University of Maryland Baltimore, School of Medicine, Department of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Sciences. RESEARCH SUMMARY: Dr. Stone has an extensive background in healthcare serving persons with functional needs and training expertise in MCH related disciplines; this provides her with the experience needed to assist the MCDD in future work in dissemination of information on disability related topics and training our next generation of public health professionals. Dr. Stone currently leads the Resource Finder which responds to over 1400 inquires annually for disability related information and training from self-advocates, caregivers, and professionals. Dr. Stone will serve as the MCDD’s primary resource in the development of leadership training programs in the state. She serves on the Board of Directors for Alliance, Inc., a non-profit serving self-advocates with mental health and developmental disabilities in Maryland. Dr. Stone has research interests in bridging the gap to ensure disability research is incorporated into public health. One vehicle to facilitate this integration is through leadership development for trainees and professionals in public health. She is currently pursuing the use of several leadership assessment tools to measure training and mentorship effectiveness for public health trainees, one being the Maternal Child Health Leadership Competencies
