Biography
BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH: Dr. Gerring completed undergraduate studies at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, and received her medical degree from Cornell University Medical College in 1968. She completed a pediatric residency at Johns Hopkins Hospital and completed a general and child psychiatry residency at Payne Whitney Clinic/Cornell Medical Center. She is Board-Certified in pediatrics, general psychiatry, and child and adolescent psychiatry. Dr. Gerring is the Medical Director of the Child Psychiatry Outpatient Program at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, a comprehensive program for 1700 children in East Baltimore providing a continuum of mental health services. Dr. Gerring is on the Editorial Board of the Journal of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. She is actively involved in the Maryland Regional Council of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and is a member of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and the American Psychiatric Association. RESEARCH SUMMARY: Dr. Gerring’s primary research interest relates to the psychiatric sequelae of pediatric Traumatic Brain Injury. She has published articles on anxiety disorders and Attention-deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder after TBI, describing injury, psychosocial, and neuroimaging risk factors for these disorders.
