Lena Bezman

Biography

Biographical sketch: Dr. Bezman is originally from St. Petersburg, Russia. She received her medical degree from the Pediatric Medical Institute in St. Petersburg in 1977, where she also completed a residency in pediatrics in 1980. She worked as a pediatrician, pediatric ICU specialist and a researcher for several years in St. Petersburg. Dr. Bezman achieved a master's of public health from the Johns Hopkins University School of Hygiene and Public Health in 1992, specializing in epidemiology. Dr. Bezman completed a fellowship with the school's Department of Epidemiology and was a post-doctoral fellow in clinical epidemiology. She also served as a consultant for the National Institutes of Health, the National Cancer Institute and the Ministry of Health of Belarus. Dr. Bezman joined Kennedy Krieger Institute in 1994 as a research coordinator in the Department of Neurogenetics. She is also a research associate in the Department of Neurology at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Research Summary: Dr. Bezman's clinical interests have recently focused on adrenoleukodystrophy, including its treatment, progression, mutation and prognosis. She also received grants to study peroxisomal disorders and the genetic causes of intellectual disabilities.
