Biography

Gerald A. Reynolds was named to his current position in 2012. He has more than 20 years of legal experience, including 15 years of energy and utility law. Reynolds began his career as a legal associate at Schatz & Schatz, Ribicoff & Kotkin in Stamford, Conn. From there he went to Washington D.C. to serve as a legal analyst at the Center for Equal Opportunity and then president of the Center for New Black Leadership. In 1998, he was named senior regulatory counsel at Kansas City Power & Light Company in Kansas City, Mo. Before leaving the company, he managed the law department and advised on corporate affairs and regulatory issues. In 2003, Attorney General John Ashcroft appointed Reynolds deputy associate attorney general in the United States Department of Justice. Prior to that appointment, Reynolds served as assistant secretary for civil rights for the United States Department of Education. In this role, he managed one of the largest civil rights regulatory agencies in the federal government and directed more than 700 employees. Prior to joining LG&E and KU, he was the vice president, general counsel and secretary for the Eastern Division of American Water in Lexington. In this role, he managed legal affairs for regulated corporate affiliates in nine states, including Kentucky. Reynolds received his bachelor's degree from The City University of New York at York College and his Juris Doctor from Boston University School of Law. Reynolds has also served as chairman of the United States Commission on Civil Rights in Washington D.C. He currently serves on the boards of the Show-Me Institute, Metro Bank and Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill.
