Biography
Renal fibrogenesis is the downstream biological process is virtually any renal disease causing renal insufficiency and, finally, complete renal failure. Dr. Hirschberg studies the pathways that contribute to fibrosis in the kidney. He found that fibroblast proliferation is regulated by TGFb pathway. A separate project in the lab examines the regulation of renal intercalated cells by TGFb and BMP.
