Research Interest
Our research falls into the following categories: (1) Basin analysis, (2) Paleoaltimetry, (3) Paleoclimatology, and (4) Paleoecology. With the former two, we aim at understanding the growth history of orogenic belts and providing quantitative constraints on the elevations. We do research in the later two fields in order to investigate how climate and ecology were changed in response to the buildup of high mountains. To achieve our research goals, we apply an integrated approach comprising of detrital mineral geochronology and thermochronology (zircon U-Pb, muscovite 40Ar/39Ar, apatite U-Th/He, etc), Sr/Nd geochemistry, along with field work, to understand the formation and evolution of paleodrainage systems. We also apply the organic geochemistry tools, i.e. the compound specific isotope analysis (CSIA) on lipid wax n-alkanes, the terrestrial temperature proxy – MBT/CBT index, and sea surface temperature (SST) proxy – TEX86.
