Biography

Skylar Gremillion is an instructor in the Louisiana State University Department of Sociology. A wonderful college located in occasionally sweltering but charming city of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. In 2013 I earned my Ph.D. in Sociology from LSU. My dissertation, entitled Dragged into the Future: How Internet Communications and Media Legitimacy Facilitate Lagging Gender Norms was a social- psychological experiment that drew inspiration from Cecilia Ridgeway's Framed by Gender. The experiment tested the idea that reading sexist information online re-activates older gender norms. My research focuses on the intersection of gender and technology, in particular I'd like to investigate how new communications and technologies can influence the social evolution of norms and attitudes.
