Biography
Carrie A Berg is a Lecturer of Biomedical Sciences in Lowa State University.
Research Interest
Dr. Berg is a lecturer in the Department of Biomedical Sciences in the Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine (Spring 2013-Current) with research and teaching responsibilities. Dr. Berg is in her fourth year of pursuing a PhD in biomedical sciences specializing in anatomy and physiology. Dr. Berg is conducting her research in the laboratory of Dr. Anumantha Kanthasamy investigating the development and validation of an organotypic brain slice model for studying chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE). The goal of this research is to develop a well characterized ex-vivo organotypic slice culture CTE model that: addresses all brain regions vulnerable to injury, recapitulates key CTE molecular markers, and decreases the number of animals used in research. This model will be used for screening and identifying neuroprotective compounds to ameliorate the increasing numbers of morbidity and mortality rates of single and multiple traumatic brain injuries (tbi’s) sustained daily worldwide.
