Biography
Dr. Stewart is the Senior Director of Strategy, Institute for Protein Design, UW Medicine, University of Washington and brings over 19 years of experience in drug discovery, corporate partnerships and start-ups. He co-founded Emerald BioStructures in 1998 as a UW spinout company (now Beryllium), and led the growth of the company as a business unit within two publicly traded companies and the successful spinout from deCODE Genetics in 2009. He also co-founded Emerald BioSystems in 2005 (now a Rigaku company), and served for 2 years as the Sr. Director of Alliances at the Allen Institute for Brain Science, where he co-founded NorthWest NeuroNeighborhood. Dr. Stewart also serves on the board of directors for Tetra Discovery Partners, is an Advisor to Beryllium and a member of the WINGS Washington medical technology angel investor network. He holds a bachelor’s degree in biology from McMaster University and a doctorate in biochemistry and virology from Cornell University. He also earned an Executive Master of Business Administration from the Foster School at the University of Washington. He has co-authored 85 peer reviewed scientific publications and five book chapters, and is inventor on nine issued U.S. patents.
