Shaorong Zhang

Biography

Dr. Shaorong Zhang is currently an Associate Professor of Finance at Marshall University and a CFA charter holder and member of CFA Institute. Dr. Zhang received his B.A. in Finance from Xiamen University (China) in 1989, MBA (Finance) from University of New Orleans in 1998, and Ph.D. in Finance from University of MissouriColumbia in 2004. He also obtained his CFA charter in 2004 and has been an active member of CFA Institute since then. Before coming to United States to pursue graduate degrees, Dr. Zhang worked as a commercial loan officer in Bank of China from 1989-1994, and a financial manager for a large corporation in China from 1994-1997. Dr. Zhang joined Marshall University in 2004 as an Assistant Professor in Finance, promoted to Associate Professor of Finance in 2008, and tenured in 2010. He has taught various finance courses including Principles of Finance, Financial Management, Investments and Portfolio Management, Financial Markets and Institutions, Commercial Banking, Options and Futures, and International Financial Management, at both undergraduate and graduate levels. Dr. Zhang also has extensive international teaching experience in China and India. Dr. Zhang’s research interests include new issues of securities, corporate governance, payout policies, family firms, and emerging markets. He has published papers in reputable finance journals such as Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis and The Financial Review, and has presented his research papers at The Financial Management Association Annual Meeting multiple times
