Biography
Avetik leads our global work in metals. He joined McKinsey in 2001 and has led client work for leading domestic and foreign companies in the basic materials and petroleum sectors, with a particular focus on strategy, manufacturing operations, procurement, supply chain management, marketing, organizational development, and management systems. Avetik also advises the governments of CIS and other countries on economic policy and administrative reform. He has been active in structuring public-private partnerships applying innovative methods to improve interactions between governments and a wide range of stakeholders. Recent engagements include: leading a large-scale operations transformation program for a large steel company; reforming investment governance and leading upstream strategy development for petroleum industry players, leading a comprehensive procurement optimization program for a large power equipment manufacturer; developing a global mining strategy for a large steel company; developing a global market/product strategy for an aircraft manufacturer; helping to develop a fact base and analysis to inform the development of a comprehensive economic reform program for one CIS country, and supporting efforts to upgrade critical business legislation for another. Avetik leads McKinsey’s Metals & Mining Practice in CIS and Eastern Europe and is an active contributor to our Operations Practice. He is a core member of our European Public Sector practice. Over the last several years, Avetik has led the recruiting activities McKinsey’s Moscow office, covering the Russian-speaking talent market in CIS, Western Europe, and North America. Before joining McKinsey, Avetik worked as a summer associate at the trading department of Salomon Smith Barney investment bank (New York). He also served as a head of the World Trade Organization (WTO) Affairs Department/Representative of the Government of the Republic of Armenia in negotiations with the WTO on developing the conditions for liberalizing Armenia’s services market.
