Biography
Jake is the managing partner of McKinsey’s Chicago office and a former leader of our Medical Products practice in the Americas. For more than 15 years, Jake has guided medical technology company executives on matters of corporate strategy, growth strategy, and operational excellence. As one of our longest-standing advisors to the medical products industry, he appreciates the potential for each new wave of technical advance to have a profound impact on patient care. Drawing on a technical background, Jake has helped many of the world’s leading providers of medical devices navigate the rapidly changing value-chain. He also advises private equity companies seeking healthcare-related mergers and acquisitions. Examples of his recent work include: transforming the cost structure of leading medical products company, including product-level cost evaluations, supply chain optimization, and manufacturing networking redesign setting an optimal pricing and go-to-market approach for a leading diagnostics company developing a services and solution strategy for a leading capital equipment manufacturer supporting a private equity firm making an acquisition in the medical technology sector by conducting rapid market diligence defining a growth and M&A strategy for a consumables manufacturer An expert on changes in U.S. health care, Jake speaks frequently at conferences and on professional panels across North America. He has noticed that medical technology companies sometimes struggle to keep pace with change, so he seeks ways to help executives appreciate opportunities and get out ahead. He recently gave the keynote speech at a meeting of the American Diagnostics Association. Jake is an active leader in many Chicago civic enterprises. He serves on the boards of both the Civic Consulting Alliance and Choose Chicago, an organization promoting tourism for the city. He is also an active volunteer for the Chicago chapter of Pets Are Worth Saving (PAWS).
