Biography
f Paul J. Pearson, MD, PhD as Chief of the Division of Adult Cardiothoracic Surgery effective March 1, 2017. Dr. Pearson currently serves as Chief of the Division of Cardiovascular Surgery and Co-Director of the Cardiovascular Institute at NorthShore University HealthSystem. Dr. Pearson graduated from Wheaton College and received his MD and PhD degrees from Mayo Graduate School of Medicine. He then completed an NIH-sponsored post-doctoral fellowship in the Department of Physiology at Mayo Clinic, followed by his general surgery residency at the Virginia Mason Clinic in Seattle. He returned to the Mayo Clinic for his cardiothoracic surgery training. Dr. Pearson is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, American College of Cardiology, American Heart Association and the American College of Chest Physicians. He has dedicated the majority of his career to clinical trial participation and device development, largely in the field of cardiac valve replacement and repair. He brings to our campus a unique level of experience with minimally invasive valve replacement as well as innovative open surgical techniques. Dr. Pearson’s recruitment was a true collaborative effort made possible by many invaluable contributions from the Departments of Medicine (Division of Cardiology) and Anesthesiology, as well as leaders across many levels of the Medical College of Wisconsin (to include MCP) and Froedtert Health. I also want to recognize key team members from the Perioperative Enterprise (to include our Perfusion Staff) and the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery, especially the work of Dr. George Haasler as interim Division Chief and the support of our Congenital Heart Surgeons (Drs. Viktor Hraska, Michael Mitchell, and Ronald Woods). Please welcome Dr. Pearson on his arrival March 1.
Research Interest
surgical treatment of congenital and acquired abnormalities of the heart and cardiovascular system, lungs and chest wall. Surgeons address the entire spectrum of problems in patients of all ages, sizes and maturity levels - from prenatal consultation to adults with congenital heart disease.
