Biography
Alyssa Schatz is the Vice President of Advocacy for the Mental Health Association of Southeastern Pennsylvania (MHASP). Ms. Schatz has experience in behavioral health research, policy work, coalition building, lobbying, program development and management, and executive leadership. Ms. Schatz obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work from Eastern Connecticut State University and her Master’s Degree in Social Work from the University of Pennsylvania. Ms. Schatz began her post-graduate career as the Children's Systems Advocate for MHASP where she worked to improve children's mental health through education and advocacy. Ms. Schatz then spent several years as the Associate Director and Public Policy Specialist of the Philadelphia Alliance, a non-profit trade association of 60 mental health, addiction treatment, and intellectual disability service organizations. Since returning to MHASP in 2014, a key project led by Ms. Schatz has been advocating for the enforcement of behavioral health parity in partnership with a statewide coalition of diverse stakeholders. Successes include collaboration with the Pennsylvania Insurance Department on market conduct examinations and public education efforts and the introduction of a comprehensive parity enforcement bill in the Pennsylvania General Assembly.
