Biography
Professor Masterson is a scholar of international relations theory and research methodology with specialization in international political economy. His research interests include the international relations of East Asia in general and analyzing the nexus between Chinese foreign and economic relations with the world in particular. His recent publication in China Information examines the effects economic factors have on Chinese political relations with its neighbors from 1987-2001. Professor Masterson teaches courses on International Relations theory (GOVT 364), Current World Problems (GOVT 362), US Foreign Policy (GOVT 262), Asian Politics (GOVT 334), and Comparative Politics (GOVT 230). Professor Masterson has lived in China and Japan numerous times and has recently directed study abroad programs for MSU students studying in China and Vietnam for the last two summers. Lastly, Professor Masterson received an external grant from the Overseas Young Chinese Forum ($2,500) to give a series of lectures at Guangxi University on Globalization and China and has received an external grant from the Department of State ($75,000) to establish an American Center at Guangxi University.
