Biography

Phylicia T. Baird, MD, is an Instructor at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and she practices internal medicine at Mount Sinai Doctors, Queens. She received her medical degree from SUNY Downstate Medical Center and went on to complete a residency in internal medicine at Northwell Health, formerly known as the North Shore– LIJ Health System. During residency she delivered care to various patients with psychosocial and economic barriers in a Patient-Centered Medical Home, in which primary care is patient-centered, comprehensive, team-based, coordinated, and focused on quality and safety. Her clinical experiences in this setting reinforced her knowledge of the importance of team dynamics in relation to delivering successful care. As a result of her work there, she was honored for her academic excellence and clinical contributions towards patients in the community. Dr. Baird provides personalized primary care services with a focus on preventive medicine and health literacy. By educating patients about their conditions, engaging them in the management of their health, and empowering them to make healthy decisions, she helps to foster patient compliance with treatment plans. She is sensitive to the cultural and socioeconomic diversity of her patients and how that contributes to their views regarding the diagnosis, treatment and management of diseases. By promoting health literacy and creating partnerships with her patients, Dr. Baird aims to improve their health outcomes. She values the long-term relationships she forms with her patients and the positive impact she has on their lives.
