Richard Boyle

Biography

Richard Boyle is an Senior Scientist at NASA Ames Research Centerm, Space Biosciences Research Branch. He holds a B.A. degree from University of Colorado, Boulder (bio) Psychology (distinction), M.Sc. from McGill University, Montréal, Québec and Ph.D. from Scuola Normale Superiore, Pisa, Italy. His research focuses on the neural mechanisms of sensory transduction of head acceleration, the neural control of posture and equilibrium from reflex to voluntary movements, the neural mechanisms underlying adaptation to altered gravity and radiation exposure, and modeling/simulation

Research Interest

Research focuses on the neural mechanisms of sensory transduction of head acceleration, the neural control of posture and equilibrium from reflex to voluntary movements, the neural mechanisms underlying adaptation to altered gravity and radiation exposure, and modeling/simulation. The research uses functional techniques of electrophysiology and application of natural stimuli, microscopy from light to scanning and transmission electron, and preparations from isolated mollusk nervous system to subhuman primates. The research has been funded by NIH, NSF, and NASA continuously from 1984.
