Biography

Dr. Frishman is the Rosenthal Professor of Medicine, and a Professor of Pharmacology at New York Medical College, and Director of Medicine at Westchester Medical Center. He has received national recognition for excellence in teaching, including the Teaching Scholar Award of the American Heart Association, the Preventive Cardiology Academic Award from the National Heart Lung and Blood Institute, and the Distinguished Teacher Award from the Association of American Medical Colleges and Alpha Omega Alpha, the National Medical Honor Society. He is also a recipient of the Medical Humanism Award from the Association of American Medical Colleges and a Mastership of the American College of Physicians.

Research Interest

Dr. Frishman is a practicing internist and cardiologist with a research interest in cardiovascular pharmacology, clinical epidemiology and geriatrics. He has authored and co-authored over 900 original articles, reviews and book chapters. He has also edited, co-edited, authored and co-authored twelve full-length textbooks, including a major text, Cardiovascular Pharmacotherapeutics (McGraw-Hill) now in its second edition. He recently had three new books published titled: Complementary and Integrative Therapies for Cardiovascular Disease (Elsevier 2005), Cardiovascular Regeneration and Stem Cell Therapy (Blackwell Futura, 2007) and Hypertension: A Clinical Guide (Lippincott, 2007). He is also the supplements editor for the American Journal of Medicine and a co-editor of the journal Cardiology in Review and the Year Book of Medicine. Dr. Frishman has served as a principal investigator in multiple NIH funded studies including the "Systolic Hypertension in the Elderly" (SHEP) Trial, the "Studies of Left Ventricular Dysfunction" (SOLVD), the "Womens Health Initiative Trial" (WHI) and the "Bronx Longitudinal Aging Study."
