Biography
Mang is a hands-on entrepreneur who in the past decade has built two successful San Diego biopharmaceutical companies. He was the Founder of Perlan Therapeutics in 1997 and has played several key leadership roles as Executive VP, President, CEO and Chairman. He raised three rounds of financing for Perlan, including two rounds of venture capital. Under his leadership, Perlan was a top-10 finalist for the Venture Capital Success Story of 1999 and a top-3 finalist for Connect’s Most Innovative New Products Award. Previously, Mang was the Scientific Co-Founder of Immusol and played the pivotal role in establishing the HIV Gene Therapy program on which the company was founded. He developed an anti-HIV drug, MY-2, from conceptual design through an FDA approved clinical trial. Mang held several positions at Immusol, including Director of HIV Gene Therapy and Director of Target Discovery & Gene Therapy. He led the drug development programs for HBV, HCV and HIV; he also helped secure a $49 million corporate partnership with Pfizer. Prior to his entrepreneurial activities, Mang spent seven years doing biomedical research since 1985 when he became an assisant professor at Shanghai Medical University. Mang is the Chairman of NexBio and a board member of the US-China Entrepreneur Association. He holds a Ph.D. degree in Molecular Biology from Indiana University and has ten U. S. patents. In addition, Mang has completed an intensive executive MBA training program.
