William H. Swanson

Biography

  Mr. Swanson is the retired chairman of the board and chief executive officer of Raytheon, a technology and innovation leader specializing in defense, security, and civil markets throughout the world. He was Raytheon’s chief executive officer from July 2003 through March 2014 and served as chairman of the board from January 2004 until his retirement in September 2014. Before assuming those positions, he served as President of Raytheon from July 2002 to May 2004, as executive vice president of Raytheon and president of its Electronic Systems division from January 2000 to July 2002, and as executive vice president of Raytheon and chairman and chief executive officer of Raytheon Systems Company from January 1998 to January 2000. Mr. Swanson joined Raytheon in 1972 and held a wide range of leadership positions with the company. He served as director of the TJX Companies, Inc. from January 2015 to June 2016. Mr. Swanson has been a director of NextEra Energy, Inc. since 2009.
